High grade gold and silver ore specimen from the only operating gold mine in central Europe - Rozalia Mine in Hodrusa-Hamre, Slovakia. The specimen measures approx. 8 x 7 x 4 cm and weights 274 grams (8.8 oz).
The ore are thin low sulphidation epithermal quartz veins of Neogene age (11-16 mil. years) hosted in andesite or quartz-diorite porphyry, very rich on gold (assays are typically >100g/t Au and >100 g/t Ag, sometimes even 1000 g/t Au). This specimen is a piece of the quartz vein material, very rich on sulphides - sphalerite and galena. Gold is free and occurs as microspic inclusions in sulphides (visible gold is very rare).
