Herod "the Great" is known for his initiating of the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem. He killed two of his own sons and murdered innocent children of Bethlehem due to his paranoia about Jesus birth. The biblical references to Herod is significant enough to be noted by the authors of the New Testament. This is a nice piece of Biblical history.

Comes from the times right before the birth of Christ - this coin circulated in the Holy Land during his life.
