I’m very excited to offer this elegant, restored c.1910’s era pan style chandelier featuring an INCREDIBLE set of etched iridescent art glass shades!
This fixture, from about 1910, is in fantastic vintage condition with an attractively aged patina that brass can only acquire through decades of oxidation.
Pan lights were commonplace in early 20th century homes, but this one is SPECIAL - note the ornately cast arms, and especially the pierced brass banding on the main body, the shade holders, and even the canopy. I have NEVER seen this detail before. Incredible! This is quite a unique fixture!
I have not polished the metal as to preserve the time aged color, but it did get a thorough cleaning. There are some minor surface irregularities, but this can be expected from any fixtures from this era. The keyless sockets are original and function well, and the wiring is new - cloth covered like the original would have been. The canopy is also original, and in fantastic condition. Save for some minor, age appropriate “stress cracks” on the shade holders, this piece is in excellent overall condition.
The shades, which feature a delicately etched allover “chipped ice”, or “feather” pattern are absolutely stunning. They light very well and suit the piece quite nicely, complimenting the pierced brass metal details found elsewhere on the fixture. The bottoms of each of the three shades are somewhat roughly ground, their original state, but are free of all other notable defects and damage.
The iridescence on each shade is TO DIE FOR. I have not edited or turned up the contrast on my photos - they really DO have that strong of an iridescence in person!
The scale of this light makes it ideal for a small to medium sized room, measuring at about 16 inches across from shade-to-shade, and about 32 1/2 inches long. I can adjust the length down a bit, but I cannot make it longer without replacing the original chain.
I picture this in a bedroom, a small front parlor, over a stairhall landing/common space, or even in a dining room. Pan lights were WILDLY popular in the early 20th century, and are very versatile light fixtures that work in just about any space.
The sale includes all the necessary mounting hardware, which is all new. Light bulbs are not included.
