Lovely, 23" long, "pre Greiner", antique papiermache shoulderhead doll with sweet expression and charming, dark glass eyes. Exactly as found, stored away for more than one hundred years, she is in completely original condition with original clothing as shown and in need of some gentle TLC. Shown and fully described on pages 177-178, "Wonderful Dolls of Papier Machè"-Gerken. Circa 1850s and either German or American made, she has fourteen long, black molded curls all around her head with center part and her well textured hair combed away from her face exposing her ears with deep comb marks. She has lovely black glass eyes with finely painted upper and lower eyelashes with delicately molded upper and lower eyelids. Her commercially made, cloth body is white linen twill with slender waist and leather lower arms (one lower arm is missing and the other needs replacing as it is very worn). She has all over greying to the shoulderhead with checking (paint crazing) and paint wear to her hair as shown. Lips and nostrils still have original pink color. She has no cracks or splits although the very top of her head has slight indent from storage. No attempt has been made to clean or refresh her appearance and we'll leave that to her new owner. Her horsehair stuffed, cloth body is in very good condition with no splits or tears and no holes. She wears her original antique cotton pantaloons, matching petticoat, knit stockings and lace camisole. Please note: nearly all of our items are antique or vintage (usually with some signs of wear due to usage and previous storage). We do our very best to describe and photograph them for you and do not repair, restring, repaint or enhance them in any way as most collectors prefer to find them in their original state.
