1862 Dated USA Gold One Dollar-Type 3-Very Sharp Graphics-Hole-Non-Ferrous Chain - Non coin seller cleaning out family inherited armoire. Civil war dollar. This dollar is sharp, other than the small hole at 11 O'clock. This obviously reduces value considerably. I see 3 others with holes selling ranged from $255-$270. I'll price lower and test the waters. The coin housing and chain are non=ferrous but I don't know their composition. Even the housing has rills/ridges like a coin. The chain is 16" long. Remarkable chain...flat and not much bigger than a thread.

Approximately 5,235 pieces were produced with an estimated 250 pieces surviving today, mostly in grades of XF and lower. 1850 $1 Gold Dollar - PCGS GENUINE CLEANED UNC DETAIL - 1850 $1 Gold Dollar - PCGS GENUINE CLEANED UNC DETAILThis coin is in beautiful condition. I thought it would receive an MS 65 or 66, but someone must have rubbed a finger across it a few times. It came back from PCGS as cleaned. As a result, this is a drastically cheaper coin with extraordinary condition quality. For those that do not mind the cleaned tag this is the coin for you. These $1 gold coins are extremely scarce in higher quality and the prices reflect it on the ones with pure grades above MS 64. I’m pricing this particular coin as a general mint state or UNC quality coin.
