PEPTENZYME was a late 1800s elixir providing a cure for indigestion.

In 1860, John Carnrick of The Reed & Carnrick Drug Company produced a product called Maltine and went on to manufacture similar cures under the names of Lactopeptine, Kumysgen, and Peptenzyme.

In the 1870s, the firm would change its name to Reed & Carnrick, manufacturing cures in bottles with just the product’s name embossed on the bottle, with  Reed & Carnrick on the base.

This beautiful, near-mint condition, 3” tall and 1.75” wide, cobalt blue pill bottle has PEPTENZYME embossed in a sunken panel, and on the base, REED & CARNRICK NY embossed in a circle. Interestingly, while all Peptenzymes I have seen have a blank space inside the name, there is a partial, almost ghosted, RICK, obviously the last letters of his name.

As always with vintagepapa, carefully wrapped and promptly mailed. Thank you for looking!
