RARE!1960'S VINTAGE PAPER DRESS! ORIGINAL PACKAGE! MARS
RARE and MUSEUM QUALITY! PRISTINE and PERFECT CONDITION! 1960's PAPER DRESS!
I could not believe this when I found this treasure!
Considering that these fashions were made out of PAPER, it's amazing that one survives like this AND in the original packaging!
It is museum quality with the original tape still on, as the tape has yellowed and never been removed or, as said, opened!
This is a 1960's PAPER DRESS whose fashion only lasted a few months in the middle 1960's.
The dress itself is made out of 80% cellulose and 20% cotton. In looking at the fabric, it actually reminds me of papyrus!
You can see a grid of fibres in the tan paper material and the what I would call a Southwestern motif, printed in dark brown, birds, suns, animals and a lot of geometrics like mountain range zig zags. All designs are in blocks.
I am not opening up the package as it is so rare to find something like this in its original state.
The front has all the information. It is called "excitingly NEW!". It is almost a heralding of our more modern throwaway society as it states:
FROM THE WASTEBASKET BOUTIQUE COLLECTION.
Paper Throwaway A-LINE SHIFT DRESS.
Shorten with scissors-Press with a cool iron
NEW WONDER FABRIC Fire and Water Resisitant
It gives sizes. This one according to the original sticker is 16-18.
There are further instructions on care, but most importantly, it is created by MARS MFG. Co., INC of Asheville, N.C.
I have tried to show in close-ups the yellowed tape and the thread grid in the paper fabric.
Anything ephemera has a lot of value in the fact that it just survives!
This really is amazing! I can see in the package that the armholes are bound and reinforced with seam tape in a cream shade, it is probably so along the neckline as well.
I love the birds and what I can tell, animals in this dress! Almost petroglyphic!
This is an amazing and genuine collectible fashion in pristine condition. A time capsule from the 1960's. Could be worn, could be collected, but is definitely cherishable!
