Connecticut Wadsworth Atheneum 1st Day Cover Wadsworth Atheneum Stamp....
On January 9, 1988, the USPS issued an imprinted postcard with the imprint or 'stamp' commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut - the first public art museum in the United States. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, the postcard with the full-color imprint or 'stamp' cancelled from the city of issue (Hartford, CT) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark created to cancel this 'stamp' on its 'birthday.'
The black & white cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) features a drawing of the Nautilus Goblet by Georg Mund circa 1620 which is part of the permanent collection. The company that produced this cover has also written a brief commentary about the Wadsworth Atheneum and some of the prestigious collections it houses.
Double matted in blue & white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
