Civil War Newsletter - Mail Call Journal... Keeping the Spirit of the Civil War Soldier Alive Newsletter - Vintage, Rare, Collectible 66 issues published from 1990-2001 Mail Call Journal was published by Distant Frontier Press from 1990 to 2001. It was published semi-monthly and featured excerpts from books usually written by or about Civil War soldiers matching the months of publication. So for example, the "July-August" issue would feature various battles and actions that occurred during the war in those months (the Battle of Gettysburg being one), or for the "November-December" issue, how soldiers spent their Christmas in uniform. Each issue featured 6-10 different excerpts, each being well annotated. The focus was on the soldier’s letters, journals, autobiographies, biographies to try to have as original a source and point-of-view as possible. Issues were printed in black ink on various color stock - blue, gray, tan, white, yellow, or green but usually alternated blue and gray in honor of the soldiers and the colors of the uniforms they donned.  The soldier’s favorite time of day was “Mail Call” and these issues honor that and try to capture the spirit of communications to and from soldiers as well as accounts of what they endured in uniform.  * All issues are 8 pages, 8.5"x11", double-sided, unless otherwise noted below. Pages bound by a staple in upper corner.  * Original issues were folded in thirds and mailed to subscribers in #10 envelopes. These issues are flat and unfolded unless otherwise noted.  * As such, there is some indentation near the corners of some issues from weight of other issues.  * Layout is simple in keeping with layout and design of the period. * Full set of issues (66 issues) will be boxed. * Annual sets will be shipped to a 9"x12" envelope. These are original, unread issues. They have been in storage by the publisher. All are in very good condition, any exceptions noted. Issue Details: SPRING 1990, Vol. 1 No. 1 Charles Alley, 5th IA Co.
