Up for bid is this antique Einar Weilbach & Company solid bronze binnacle compass. Manufactured by Einar Weilbach & Company of Copenhagen, Denmark, this bronze binnacle ships compass is a dry "Dead-Beat" compass and is marked 9339. The compass measures 8 1/2 inches in diameter and has a 12 1/2 inch diameter gimball ring. The compass measures 4 1/2 inches deep. This compass dates to around the 1930s to 1940s and is in great condition. A 'dead beat' compass is one in which the card has been sufficiently dampened to make the card steady when a vessel is rolling in heavy seas.
