Seller: number-one (372) 100%, Location: Los Angeles, California, Ships to: US, Item: 172408100760 This is a very nice original crank operated doorbell. The bell has the Patent Date of June 10,1871 on the back. The Bell was made by Corbin as shown on the face of the bell. The bell and crank have been refinished. The 1871 bell is mechanically improved over the 1860 bells. The bell will ring when the crank is turned in either direction. The Bell is made of Bronze and the back plate is made of Iron. The Bell is a little less than 5" in diameter and the back plate is about 5' by 6 1/4". The Crank is made of Brass and is about 4" by 1 1/4". The Crank appears to be nickel plated with the higher areas polished off to the brass underneath. The porcelain knob does not have any cracks or chips. The Bell should fit a door up to 2 1/4" thick. This is a very nice Bell that is ready to be installed on your door or even on a display mount. One desirable feature of Crank Bells is that only a small, about 3/8", hole needs to be drilled through the door. If you are looking for a Crank Type doorbell and do not want to spend hours refinishing/repairing you may want to consider this bell.
