Seller: mawalter1 (155) 100%, Location: Plainfield, Illinois, Ships to: US, Item: 291944756226 Here is a beautiful antique Persian (Iran) copper ceremony bowl. It has three marks on the bottom, one being a lion standing, sun rays and garland. This mark has been partially worn off in area of lions face and front legs. There are pics of enlarged mark images. Please see all pics. It appears that there was once a resting ring on the bowl that is gone. Some of these bowls are listed as "Tinned copper or bronze" and I'm not sure but this one appears to be copper. From research this bowl appears to be from the 18th century or earlier. There is a border design around the top outer edge. Exact origins are not known. I am not an expert and I'm listing this from what information I have from my own research. This bowl is 7&5/8" across top, 3&1/4" high. When first placed on a surface it rocks momentarily before its weight stabilizes it. More fascinating information on the lion/sun marking can be found on the internet under "Qajar (Kadjar) Emblems of Rulers, The Lion and the Sun". Thank you.
