A Very Nice, Antique, Late Qing Dynasty, Child's, Tiger, Hat.
The Qing was the Last Dynasty in China lasting from 1614-1912.
Hats that represent animals, such as tigers, are intended to protect children by warding off evil spirits. The tiger is one of the earliest images to appear in Chinese culture as a protector of the living as well as the dead. Tiger imagery can be found at tomb entrances and painted on warrior’s helmets. This particular "Spirit" hat is of the type that would be worn by children during festivals.
Condition is Excellent, with only signs of minimal wear. A Remarkable piece.
