The Car That Beat Ferrari
The Ford GT40, arguably the most famous racing sports car of all time, comes to HO scale slot car racing. And AFX brings it to you as the next edition in the SRT Collector Series.
HISTORY
Commissioned by Henry Ford, the GT40 was designed specifically to beat Ferrari at Le Mans, in part as a pay-back after Ferrari turned down Ford’s offer to buy the famous Italian marque in 1963. Indeed, the GT40 did beat Ferrari at Le Mans in 1966, then again in 1967, ’68 and ’69, dominating endurance sports car racing over the entire period.
GT40 #2 Drivers: Bruce McLaren / Chris Amon
New Zealanders McLaren and Amon were in third behind the Miles and Gurney cars at LeMans in 1966 when Gurney retired late in the race. With the race coming to an end McLaren caught up to the slowing Miles and crossed the finish line a few feet back in second, as planned. But McLaren had lined up several yards in front of Miles at the start and because the rules determine the finish by the distance traveled Miles was demoted to second in what would become one of the most infamous finishes in motorsports history.
SPECIALLY NUMBERED PACKAGING
Each Collector Series GT40 comes in specially numbered package. The package has a coded number on the upper left hand corner of the back of the blister pack. It is a 9 digit code that shows the month and year of production and the incremental number of the package within the production run. Here is a sample: 1107-00001
In this example the package was produced in the 11th month of 2007 and was the first package in the run.
SRT CHASSIS
The SRT Chassis performs like no other. It is super fast and durable and is easy to maintain and tune up.
