Seller: pennantique (3,514) 99%, Location: Scranton, Pennsylvania, Ships to: US, Item: 262736016161 Penn Antique Restoration 51"x82" Antique Chestnut Double Entry Doors w/Leaded Textured Glass Gorgeous, antique, double entry doors salvaged from a recently demolished church in Northeastern WV. Each door is made of solid chestnut and has 1 half-length window with 2 horizontal, recessed panels underneath. Also note that chestnut is a rare and valuable wood; it’s not commercially available due to the blight introduced between 1900 & 1908, which made the North American chestnut trees virtually extinct by 1940. Hardware: Besides 1 flushbolt, the doors are not equipped with hardware. However, we have a good selection of period hardware in our eBay store, and tons more in our physical store. If you prefer, we could also plug all hardware holes with solid blocks of wood--email us for a quote. Restoration: (see photos under "At the point of salvage") We found the doors completely covered under many layers of paint. There were a few broken pieces of glass and the leaded skeletons of the lites were weak and falling apart. On top of that, someone replaced the original glass with modern, green, slag glass. Since then, we've stripped the paint and sanded the doors. We took the lites to the local stained glass repair shop that we've been going to for years "Kasmark & Marshall" in Luzerne, PA, and they completely reworked them! They took out all of the glass from the lites and separated the old pieces from the new. They replaced all of the new pieces, with old pieces (many of which are no longer commercially available), and then encased them in a new, leaded skeleton. The work took weeks and cost over $900! Condition: The doors are strong, sturdy, and in great structural shape! There are a few cosmetic blemishes (character marks) including some chips in the inner corners; there is a long, but shallow crack in the lower portion of the hinge stile on one of the doors; the molding around the glass was cut to accommodate the support bars of the lites; and there are 2 slivers of wood under one of the lites that were glued back into place. Otherwise, the doors only have minor nicks, scrapes, scratches, and small nail holes, which could be filled and sanded out prior to refinishing. There was a slight handling issue with one of the lites prior to installation and as a result, 2 pieces of glass cracked. Fortunately, both pieces are small, and are positioned in the outer edges of the lite (see photo under "Cracks in the glass") and are quite inconspicuous. The wormy texture of the glass also helps camouflage them, and unless you are looking for flaws, you won't spot them. Otherwise, the glass is completely intact, and the leaded skeleton is strong and firm. Refinish/Repaint: We could refinish or repaint the doors. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote. The last photo was rendered using Photoshop, and is there to give you an idea of how they would look stained. Modification: We could also modify these doors to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, plug the hardware holes, add decorative embellishments, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
