This double basin sink was salvaged from Southeastern Massachusetts. It's made of solid soapstone. The sink has a straightforward design and is quite strong. Each slab is 1" thick! This sink weighs about 300lbs. Each basin as a drain hole, and a cast iron fixture underneath the sink, which collects the water from both holes and sends it down a single pipe. There are a few superficial cracks, which are only surface deep, but there is another along the left, rear corner, which appears to have penetrated through. I say "appears" because there is a visible crack on both sides of that part, but the corner is still tight. It will not open and there is no play or jiggle whatsoever. There is a chance that these cracks could also be superficial, but a bit deeper than the others. Since the corner feels just as tight and strong as the other 3 corners, it will only need some mortar/concrete just to plug/fill the shallow cracks. There also a few chips or small breaks in the seam or band that lines the top rim of the sink (see last 6 photos). The sink was kept outside for years and has the typical stains and build-up that accumulates on stone naturally, outdoors. If you want a cleaner, brighter look, you could achieve this by cleaning it with stone poultice. We used it in the past to clean marble and slate and it works wonders! We have plenty of porcelain/cast iron sinks, but nothing even close to this. If you are looking for something different that will last another hundred years or more, you found it! Considering the scarcity of these kind of sinks, you have a great opportunity--don't miss out!
