Seller: pennantique (3,514) 99%, Location: Scranton, Pennsylvania, Ships to: US, Item: 272463415805 Penn Antique Restoration 40"x90"x1 3/4" Antique Entry Door w/Half-length Textured Glass Beautiful, antique, exterior door salvaged from an old office building in Northeastern Missouri. The door has a solid Douglas Fir core covered with 1/4" thick birch veneers. Please don't think that "veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture, these veneers are very thick and provide strength and stability to the door. A solid birch door would've warped decades ago after years of expanding and contracting due to fluctuations in temperature and humidity. The door features an impressive, half-length, textured glass lite with floral pattern. Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of period hardware to outfit the door (check out our eBay store). * If you would like any of the hardware holes plugged with solid wood, please email us for a quote. Quirks & Considerations: At the point of salvage, we found the ends of a few strips of veneer which line the rails (horizontal members of the door) slightly warped and arched. We tried to flatten the arches and re-secure the veneer to the rails. Although the strips are tightly adhered to the wood below, there are still slight raises (see close up photos with yellow arrows). This is not an issue, as you will need to sand the door prior to painting or staining, and the strips will be sanded level and smooth in the process. Once finished, it will look like the veneer was never warped to begin with. There are small (1/16"- 1/8") gaps between the veneer on the rails and stiles (vertical, side members of the door). This is not a structural issue, just a cosmetic blemish. If you really don't like the gaps, they could be filled with wood putty prior to staining or painting. The height of the door was unevenly cut by 3/8" at some point, most likely to compensate for the home's settling foundation or a warped floor. We could cut the door to an even 89 5/8", cut it narrower and/or shorter, or even build it up to make it bigger--email us for a quote. Condition: Some of the veneer along the bottom edges broke and chipped slightly. The easiest way to fix this would be to cut off about 1" from the bottom of the door. However, if you need the door to be a full 90"H, we could replace the broken pieces with new veneer--email us for a quote. Otherwise, the door is in excellent condition with only the usual scrapes and scratches that you would expect to find on an old, used door. However, once the door is sanded for a new coat of paint, or stripped to refinish, most of these blemishes will be removed by sanding. What remains will be covered by paint or stain, and only appear as subtle "character marks." The glass is intact and also in great shape. Refinish/Repaint: We could refinish, repaint, or partially or completely strip the door to prepare it for you to repaint or refinish. See the last photos in this auction as an example of our work. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote. Swing: The door is currently set up to swing into the home towards the left. However, we could change it to swing towards the right--email us for a quote. Modification: We could also modify this door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, make molding, replace glass, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
