1958 Miss Rheingold Beer Original Painting Portrait Madelyn Darrow Advertising
For nearly 25 years (1940-64), the selection of Miss Rheingold was as newsworthy as any election in America. Intended to, of course, sell Rheingold Beer, the contest was the brainchild of Philip Liebmann whose family owned the brewery. Each year, a group of "girls next door" participated for the title as voted on by the public. In 1958, the winner was Madelyn Darrow, a California-based model who married tennis star Pancho Gonzalez in 1960. This is a promotional painting on canvas of Miss Rheingold 1958: Madelyn Darrow. The overall size of the paitning is 14 1/2" x 18 1/2" and the wood frame is stamped Liebmann Breweries, NY on the reverse. A plate on the front attests to the painting by C.L. Brockhurst as presented by Rheingold to Joe and Ann Meier. Very cool piece of advertising with just some light water damage on the left side which might be a quick repair. Winner pays $ 15.00 for USPS shipping and must remit payment no later than 5 days from closing date of auction or item will be relisted wor offered to the back-up bidder.
