Seller: specialprojects* (1,109) 100%, Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 322337979722 *BUILT AND INSTALLED IN 1893, THIS MASTERPIECE OF NINETEENTH CENTURY CRAFTSMANSHIP IS MADE ENTIRELY OF QUARTER-SAWED WHITE OAK. * IT WAS CONSTRUCTED AS AN ENTRYWAY TO A STAIRCASE AND WOULD MAKE A SPECTACULAR ROOM DIVIDER. * IT WAS REMOVED FROM A CAPITOL HILL MANSION IN DENVER, LOCATED AT 1521 NORTH PENNSYLVANIA, IN 1978. THE SITE IS NOW A PARKING LOT FOR THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHEDRAL AND A HIGH-RISE RESIDENCE FOR SENIOR LIVING. * THIS MAGNIFICENT WORK OF WOODCRAFT ARTISTRY IS SIXTEEN FEET, SIX INCHES (16' 6") WIDE AND TEN FEET, FOUR INCHES (10' 4") TALL,WITH THE FOUR INCH VALENCE. * IT IS UNFINISHED ON THE BACK SIDE AND A NUMBER OF TREATMENTS COULD BE APPLIED. IMAGE 6 SHOWS THE ENTRY ON THE RIGHT SIDE - THE IMAGE WAS REVERSED SO ONE COULD SEE WHAT IT WOULD LIKE. EVERYTHING CAN BE REVERSED INCLUDING THE PANELS TO MAKE THE ENTRY TO THE RIGHT. * IT CONSISTS OF TWO FULL CYLINDRICAL COLUMNS TOWARD THE CENTER AND TWO HALF COLUMNS OUTSIDE,TO THE WALL, WITH TURNED BASES AND DEEPLY HAND-CARVED GREEK IONIC CAPITOLS. THESE SUPPORT THREE ARCHES THAT ARE TRIMMED WITH WHITE OAK MOLDING. * BETWEEN TWO OF THE COLUMNS ARE TWO LARGE PANELS OF RAISED-RECESSED PANELS. THE RAILS AND STYLES SHOW THE DISTINCTIVE STRIPED GRAIN OF THE QUARTER-SAWED WHITE OAK WOOD. * ABOVE EACH OF THESE TWO PANELS ARE 18 TURNED BALUSTRADES (36 TOTAL) THAT ARE 2" SPACED AT 2" TOPPED WITH HANDRAILS. ABOVE THIS ARE ELEVEN 2" TURNED SPINDLES (22 TOTAL) AND 23 SMALLER TURNINGS (46 TOTAL), IN AN OPEN FAN PATTERN. * BETWEEN THE ARCHES (AND THE WALLS) ARE 32 ADDITIONAL TURNED SPINDLES. * ALL OF THIS IS TOPPED WITH A 4 INCH VALENCE MADE UP OF SEVERAL TYPES OF MOLDING INCLUDING DENTAL-MOLDING. * IT WAS ALL HAND-MADE WITH STEAM-POWERED MACHINES AND HAND TOOLS. THE ORIGINAL FINISH IS IN GREAT CONDITION AND IS SHELLAC. * IT WAS ESTIMATED THAT IT WOULD HAVE COST AS MUCH AS $70,000-$90,000 TO REPLICATE IN 1979. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT COST WOULD BE TODAY. * IT IS IN STORAGE IN LARGE PIECES AND CAN BE INSTALLED FAIRLY EASILY. I CAN ASSIST IN INSTALLING THIS ARCHITECTURAL MASTERPIECE FOR A NOMINAL FEE, IF LOCAL. LOCAL PICKUP ONLY. THIS WOULD REQUIRE AN 18 FOOT VAN. * If you have any questions, please avoid using the "Ask Seller a Question" because I frequently don't get the question (they end up in my Junk mail) and the system is very cumbersome to use. EBay no longer allows me to put my email address in. If you do, eBay strips it out, so use the email instructions below. If I have left anything out, let me know. * I accept payments through PayPal Instant Payment. * I do not accept echecks.
