1879 Delicately Hand-Colored Map: Western Hemisphere
Offered here is the scarce 137-year-old map shown. It was removed from an old book with terminal damage elsewhere. The map is beautifully colored by hand with sensitive watercolors. Usually this was done by young ladies in the employ of the printer. Colored maps or illustrations were quite rare in the 19th Century. Size of the page is roughly 9 5/8" wide by 12" tall. Please inspect detail and condition by clicking on the sample photos to enlarge and examine for yourself. There is print on the reverse but the paper is thick enough that it doesn't show through. One edge of the sheet is rough where it was bound into the book, but this can be trimmed or matted over as you might desire. These maps make great decorator items and conversation pieces when framed and displayed. Don't let this one get away! ------------------- SEE OUR STORE !
