A traditional thumb latch commonly used to keep doors and gates closed. Allowing access from either side of the door or gate, the Suffolk latch, originating in Suffolk (hence the name and rumoured to be named by architectural draughtsman William Twopenny), is often seen on internal doors within cottages for the ‘olde world’ look.
