12V Charge Controller
This is a charge/diversion controller for safely charging a battery or bank of batteries. When using wind, hydro, or solar generators, this unit provides battery regulation by diverting power to an alternate load once the battery or bank is full. With wind or hydro generators, it is important to always have a load connected to the generator. The load provides speed regulation for the generator so that it does not spin too fast and self-destruct. Once the battery or bank is charged another load is required. This load is generally referred to as a "dummy," "dump," or "diversion" load. A diversion load is optional for solar panels since there is no speed regulation required but it does make better use of extra power.
With this charge controller, when the battery or bank reaches full charge, power is automatically switched to a diversion load. When the battery or bank voltage drops, power is reapplied. The voltage trip points are user selectable.
NOT ALL DIVERSION REGULATORS ARE THE SAME!
Some diversion regulators just turn a load on that is connected to the battery. If you are using a heating element as your diversion load, this is a much less efficient way to do it. Our diversion regulator connects the turbine or solar array directly to the diversion load and bypasses the battery delivering 100% of the power to the load. Using a load connected to batteries delivers around 70% of the power produced by the turbine or solar array.
If you prefer, the controller can also be setup to switch a load connected to a battery as the diversion load. The controller is very flexible. It comes with a 40A relay in this auction, but you can use a larger relay or solenoid or multiple relays. The electronic parts are all high quality and over-rated for the application. This controller runs stone cold for years of dependability. The only wear item is the relay. Support can help you with any questions now or later and responses are quick. Please take a moment to look at our feedback, we have very satisfied customers. If you win, you will be satisfied too!
- Microprocessor controlled charge/diversion switching
- Relay protection to prevent rapid switching of the relay when the battery or bank "rides the line"
- Two modes for charging, cycling mode and non-cycling mode (stand-by power)
- Heavy load setting to temporarily bypass relay protection and respond quickly to heavy start-up loads
- Pushbutton toggling between charging and diverting (cycling mode)
- Fan output for ventilating enclosure while charging (fan not included)
- Now enclosed!
- Very compact footprint: 3" x 2
- LED status indicators
This controller is for 12 Volt operation only.
Maximum power handling is determined by the relay that you use.
What you get:
- One enclosed charge controller
- One standard automotive type relay. 5-pin, 40 amp rating
- Detailed installation instructions and owner's manual
What you will need to complete installation:
- 2- 1/4" mounting screws.
- Fuseholder and fuse required for installation (1 amp)
- One diversion load (not required for solar). Click here for more info
